This information was submitted by a genealogist in St. Catherine, Canada based on the findings of Robert Coogan's parents.

Robert Coogan 1803

Member of James and Catherine (Rooney) Coogan:

Robert Coogan
b.  Feb. 1803 in the parish of Carrigallen, County Lietrim, Ireland, son of James and Catherine Coogan  d. Oct. 31, 1865 in Niagara, Canada.

Military Records:
o  Enlisted at Ballinaugh, County Cavan with the 24th Foot Regiment on Feb. 25, 1825. He was paid two shillings and 8 pence at the enlistment.
o  Characteristics: age 22, height 5 foot 7 1/2 inches, eyes blue, hair brown.
o  His occupation was written as a Weaver    His name was spelled "Cogan."  (error?)
o  He made his mark (X) Signature of Recruit on two forms which raise questions of his education at that time.
o  His total time in service was 22 years and and 97 days;  16 years and 36 days with th 24th foot regiment.  6 years and 61 days with the Royal Canadian Rifles.
o  He received a disability discharge  May 1847 stating an asthmatic complaint that listed him unfit for duty.
    He personally was signing his name "Coogan" at this time.

fm. Mary Casey  b. in Ireland.  We have not found a death record.
James Casey, possibly Mary's brother, was born in KILBEGGAN, Westmeath. (Ireland?)  He served with the 24th Foot and the 98th Foot regiments.  He was discharged from the Royal Canadian Rifles at age 41.

sm. Jul. 4, 1858 to Mary Mustard  (Cooper) b. in Frines, France, daughter of Henry and Ellen Cooper.  Married in St. Marks church, By the Rev. Duncan McMurry. Niagara, Ont.  Witnesses: John and Maria Campbell of Niagara, Ont. Canada.

Mary Mustard was previously married to William Mustard, born in DRINY,Morayshire, (England?), a comrade of Roberts' in the RCR 93rd Foot regiment.  William was pensioned at age 39 on 28 Jun. 1853 and died 1 Jan. 1857.
