Born May 10, 1925, in Lynbrook, N.Y., he was an only child to Edward J. and Margaret, "Gleason" Coogan. At age 10, upon the death of his father, he relocated to West Orange, N.J., and East Orange, N.J. After graduating from East Orange High School at age 17, he enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps and served in World War II. Notably, he participated in air operations in the Pacific Theater, including the consolidation of the Northern Solomons and Okinawa campaigns. Ed proudly served as a member of the Marine Fighter Attack Squadron VMF-323 "Death Rattlers." He was honorably discharged as a staff sergeant at age 20. He availed himself of the G.I. bill, graduating with a B.S. in management from Seton Hall University in 1949. Mr. Coogan worked as a branch and regional manager for the Glen Falls Insurance and Continental Insurance Companies for 39 years, holding positions in Columbus, Ohio, Syracuse, N.Y., and Buffalo, N.Y., and Livingston, N.J. He retired in 1988 as regional sales operations manager for the 13 Northeast states. After retirement, he and his beloved Dolores re-located from Short Hills, N.J., to Ocala, where they have resided since 1990. He was an avid basketball fan and devoted husband and father. Edward is survived by his loving wife, Dolores; and four daughters, Linda M. Schifano, Nancy A Hausheer, Anita F. Coogan, and Jacqueleen M. Coogan, and two grandchildren, Emily and Christopher Hausheer. _______________________________________________________________________
