THEY ARE CUTTING ICE

Gardiner, Me., Jan. 19 - Operations on the ice fields were again
started up this morning by those who commenced last week.  The
operators are running in ice today, others are [lining] and
cultivating their fields.  The ice diminished about one inch in
[chicknesss ? (sic)] during the recent thaw.  J. Coogan's horse,
with cutter attached, got in the canal at the Haynes and Lawrence
house last night.  Mr. Coogan was rescued after much difficulty,
but the horse was drowned.
