COOGAN story appearing in "Boston Pilot" [MA]
(05 DEC 1891, VOL 54, NUM 49):

MONAGHAN

SHOCKING FATALITY IN MONAGHAN

A shocking fatality occurred at Watt's Bridge, between Smithboro
and Rosslea, on the 7th [int]. Mrs. Lucinda Dunwoody occupied a
cottage there with her grandson, Norman Dunwoody, three years of
age. Mrs. Essie Blakely, observing smoke issuing from the house,
immediately raised the alarm. A shopkeeper, John Monaghan, with
two men named Coogan, father and son, at once proceeded to the
scene. They broke open the front door and young Coogan rushed up
the stairs, followed by his father. The former dashed across the
burning floor, seized the child in his arms and conveyed him to a
place of safety. The elder Coogan succeeded in bringing the body
of Mrs. Dunwoody out of the apartment. On examination it was found
that both woman and child were dead, having been asphyxiated. The
fire was extinguished with little difficulty.
