Notes for: Timothy (?) Quinn, Sr
Not a great deal is known about "Uncle Tim". Born as the first child of John and Mary Cagney Quinn who, at that time were living in the area of Croom, St. Mary's parish but who later moved to the townland of Killatal, near Ballingarry, Co. Limerick, IRE. [Other place names: location Ballinvreena with an area of 752 acres, Barony of Cashlea, Civil Parish of Ballingarry as established by the Poor Law union, 1857, Killmallock]
This research was clarified by Jack and Jim Coogan on their visit to the area in 2006. (See separate of accoount of this trip). A note appearing in Mary Quinn Finley's handwritten notes speaks of him and that he attended Holy Ghost College (now Duquesne University along with his brother Jerry. She further reports that Tim married his roommate's widowed mother and of this marriage John Quinn II may have been born. However, this could not be verified. Later Tim married Ellen Buckley and had James (Jane), Nora Quinn Brashear, and Marie Quinn Schaeffer. The two boys (John, Jim) worked for the Penna. RR through retirement later settling in FLA but further record them is sparse.
Timothy Quinn is buried in Pittsburgh's Calvary Cemetery, sharing a gravesite with his wife Ellen who died 11 November 1945, section W, lot 65.
Much of this information verified by Thomas J. Quinn, son of Timothy Q, II who suggests that Uncle Tim was twice married. This could be contradicted as Ellen Buckley's death notice lists all four of her children as having been born of her husband Timothy (cf. Pittsburgh Post Gazette, Oct. 30, 1945 as found in Carnegie Library, Fiche, Oct. 30, 1945, #N-49
