Notes for: Agnes Shields Bender

Agnes Shields Bender is the daughter of Ellen (Nellie) Gordon Shields. Ellen is the second wife of James F. Coogan whom he married 28 November 1928 at St. Anselm's Church, Swissvale, PA. This marriage caused some mixed feelings among the other Coogan children; however, Margaret Coogan Herzog, who lived in Swissvale, and for a time in her father's home shortly after marrying Joseph W. Herzog, knew Agnes and often spoke to her and of her mother, Ellen. The marriage made Agnes a half sister to the other Coogan children.

After the death of James F., Ellen went to live with her daughter and there were no further connections with the family. Her date of death is unknown.
