Early education was at the Holy Rosary School, Homewood where she received a high school diploma. She also attended the Divine Providence Academy, East Liberty,, possibly for secretarial training.
May worked as a stenographer and expert typist in a number of places, notably at the PA State Highway Dept, in the old Wabash RR building on Liberty Ave.,Pittsburgh; here she met John W. Finley, a supervisor with road construction. She and John separated after about four years and she went to Washington, D.C. where she lived with sisters Elizabeth and Tess. Here she gained employment in the newly constructed Pentagon building, nerve center for the Defense Dept. After government retirement May worked as an assistant athe Carpenter's Dental Ctr., with her sister, Elizabeth
Later May worked for the Federal Government, Washington in the War Dept. at the Pentagon. Married John W. Finley at Holy Rosary Church, Homewood, Pittsburgh, Pa. on July 3, 1937 at 5:30 A.M. See also biographical notes.Although separated from John they never divorced but kept in touch.
