Notes for: Anna Gertrude Quinn

Son of James and Margaret Callahan Coogan. Born in Wishaw, SCOT, came to US with mother and brother Francis in 1905 entering through Ellis Island. The family originally lived in Fayette City, PA but moved to Turtle Creek to 1022 Oak St. Attended St. Colman church and parish school, probably completing 8th grade. John joined the Navy in 1917 from this residence but upon return from service lived with the family on Woodstock Ave. in Swisswvale.

John's earlier training was done in an evening school conducted by the Knights of Columbus where he learned the elements of drafting; this education later improved upon by additional courses at the Carnegie Institute of Technology (now Carnegie Mellon University) in Pittsburgh.
