Marriage of William J. Coogan & Retta Catterson

COOGAN - CATTERSON

Miss Retta Catterson, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. P. F. Catterson of
No. 603 Putnam avenue, Brooklyn, and Dr. William J. Coogan of No.
247 Greene avenue, Brooklyn, were married at [ten] o'clock this
morning at the Church of St. Paul the Apostle, Columbus avenue and
Sixteenth street, Manhattan. The ceremony was performed by the Rev.
Peter E. Hoey, C.S.P., who also celebrated the nuptial Mass 
following the ceremony. The Right Rev. Monsignor Edwin J. McGoldrick
of Brooklyn, a cousin of the bride, was within the sanctuary.  The
bride was attended by her sister, Miss Sadie Catterson, as maid of
honor, and John F. Nugent of Brooklyn was best man. Dr. Coogan is a
son of Mrs. Mary Coogan of Broadway, this city, and served as 
captain in the American Expeditionary Force in France, as a member
of of the One Hundred and Seventh Infantry, formerly the Seventh
Regiment of New York city.  He was gassed during the operations of
the Twenty-seventh Division, to which his regiment was attached, 
and was cited for conspicuous bravery in action.  He is a graduate
of Kingston Academy and of the Fordham Medical College. For several
years before studying medicine, he was a member of the reporting
staff of The Freeman.  The Rev. Father Hoey, who performed the
ceremony, was chaplain of Dr. Coogan's regiment during its 
operations abroad. The ceremony was attended only by members of the
families of the bride and groom and a few friends, and was followed
by a wedding breakfast at The Biltmore.  Dr. and Mrs. Coogan will
spend their honeymoon in the south and on their return will reside
in Brooklyn, where Dr. Coogan in addition to his private practice
is visiting surgeon of the Coney Island hospital.
