He grew up in Alameda and Piedmont,... 16 OCT 2007 COOGAN - Eugene Aloysius (Gene) Coogan, 80 years old, born to Eugene Aloysius and Kathleen Hennessey Coogan of New York, New York on June 3, 1927, passed on Oct. 12, 2007 in Sunnyvale, his home for the past 50 years. He was preceded in death by his wife of 50 years, Germaine Hangley Coogan, and is survived by his wife of 5 years, Betty Malmborg Coogan. Beloved father of 6 and step-father of 6: John Coogan, Joseph Coogan, Eugene A. (Beanzie) Coogan, Dee Strait, Pat Estrada, Kathleen Barreto Yamamoto, Laura Malmborg, Andrea Rynn, Leslie Rajcula, Connie Yacabone, Carol Lockwood, and Skip Malmborg. Adored grandfather of 25: Vicky, Marcus, and Adrienne Barreto; Christina Duran and Elicia (Rosie) Sanchez; Isaiah Aloysius Coogan, Dylan Costello, Brandi Lynn, and Jennifer Powers; Joey, Jimmy, and Johnny Coogan; Melissa Fontes and Matt Fontes; Jack and Pete Rynn; Joe, Nick and Ian Rajcula; Ben, Cody, and Annie Yacabone; Peter Lockwood; and Lyndsay and Chip Malmborg. Cherished great-grandfather of 5.5: Davina and Tiani Lopez, Franky Aguilar, Mary-Jane and Larry Ventura; and Baby Lynn. Gene took great pride in his service as a lieutenant in the U.S. Navy during WWII and the Korean conflict aboard the U.S.S. Braine (DD-630). As a civilian subcontractor he worked for many years during the cold war evaluating foreign capabilities for various government agencies. He was a devout Catholic and highly esteemed member of St. Cyprian Parish in Sunnyvale. A Vigil service will be held on Wednesday, Oct. 17, 2007 at 7 PM, with visitation from 5 PM to 9 PM at the Cusimano Family Colonial Mortuary, 96 El Camino Real W., Mountain View, CA. A Mass of Remembrance will be held on Thursday, October 18, 2007 at 11 AM. at St. Cyprian Church, 195 Leota Ave., Sunnyvale, CA. A private family interment ceremony will be held at Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Los Altos at a later date.
