MARGARET COOGAN - LACON - Margaret Vernay Coogan, 80, of 215 N. 
Prairie died at 9:20 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 4, 1991, at Proctor 
Community Hospital in Peoria.  Born May 7, 1911, in Visalia, Calif., 
to Colby and Daisy Morris Knapp, she married John S. Vernay on Oct. 
1, 1935, in Chicago. He died Oct. 12, 1970. She later married Harold 
E. Coogan on Feb. 14, 1976, in Lacon. He died June 20, 1983. She 
also was preceded in death by one sister and one brother.  Surviving 
is one son, Colby Vernay of Lacon.  She was Lacon city treasurer 
from 1963 to 1968 and was a member of the Lacon Country Club.  
Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Lenz Memorial Home in Lacon, 
the Rev. Katherine Harding officiating.  Visitation will be one hour 
prior to services at the memorial home. Burial will be in Lacon 
Cemetery.  Memorials may be made to the LS-Emergency 52 Fund.

WILLIAM COOGAN - William C. Coogan, 66, of 5641 N. Hamilton Road 
died at 5:19 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 24, 1992, at Saint Francis Medical 
Center.  Born July 6, 1926, in Peoria to Martin and Mary Graves 
Coogan, he married Marjorie Gordon on Nov. 29, 1952. She survives.  
Also surviving are two sons, Timothy of St. Louis and Thomas of 
Hanna City; two daughters, Patricia Vogel of Chicago and Kathleen 
Boyd of Peoria; one brother, Daniel of Indianapolis; one sister, 
Patricia Delaney of San Antonio; and three grandchildren.  He was a 
cost analyst at Caterpillar Inc., retiring in 1981. Memorial 
services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at St. Vincent de Paul 
Church. The Rev. Gregory Jozefiak will officiate. There will be no 
visitation. Cremation has been accorded. Wright & Salmon Mortuary 
is in charge of arrangements.  Memorials may be made to the St. 
Francis Medical Center Hospice or to a charity of the donor's 
choice.

MYRTLE COOGAN - EAST PEORIA - Myrtle M. Coogan, 95, of 129 Cole St. 
died at 6:35 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 3, 1993, at Washington Christian 
Village.  Born Sept. 26, 1897, in Pekin to Albert and Emma Thomas 
Parry, she married Lawrence Coogan on Nov. 17, [1920 ?], in Pekin. 
He died July 23, 1973, in East Peoria.  Two sisters and two brothers 
also preceded her in death.  Surviving are one daughter, Harriet 
Burchell of East Peoria; two granddaughters; six great-grand-
children; and one great- great-grandchild. She was a member of First 
United Methodist Church in East Peoria, where she was a member of 
the Naomi Circle and a former member of the administration board.  
She was a charter member of East Peoria Women's Club and a member of 
Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary Post 2078. Services will be at 11 
a.m. Wednesday at Remmert Funeral Home in East Peoria. The Rev. 
Jamie Milam will officiate. Visitation will be one hour before 
services at Remmert Funeral Home in East Peoria. Burial will be in 
Fondulac Cemetery.  Memorials may be made to her church or 
Washington Christian Village.

MILDRED COOGAN - CHILLICOTHE - Mildred C. "Millie" Coogan, 92, of 
907 N. Benedict died at 5:11 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 12, 1993, at Proctor 
Hospital. Born Nov. 10, 1900, in Lincoln to John T. and Anna Shoub 
Elwood, she married Lawrence B. Coogan on Feb. 18, 1930, in St. 
Louis. He died in March 1953. She also was preceded in death by one 
brother and one sister. Surviving are one son, Patrick of 
Chillicothe; three grandchildren; and three nieces.  She was an 
employee of the recorder of deeds office in Lincoln for many years. 
She worked at the Peoria County Courthouse for 16 years in both the 
county and circuit clerks' offices, retiring as a deputy circuit 
clerk in 1969. She was a member of St. Edwards Catholic Church and 
its Sodality.  Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at her church, 
where visitation will be one hour before the services. The Rev. B.K. 
Tran will officiate. Burial will be in Holy Cross Cemetery in 
Lincoln. Weber Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.  Memorials 
may be made to Rescue 33 or her church.

L. PATRICK COOGAN - CHILLICOTHE - L. Patrick Coogan, 52, of 18519 
White Oak Trace died at 9:50 a.m. Thursday, May 27, 1993, at Saint 
Francis Medical Center in Peoria.  Born Oct. 24, 1940, in Peoria to 
Lawrence B. and Mildred C. Elwood Coogan, he married Janet M. 
Reising on July 10, 1971, in Chillicothe. She survives.  Also 
surviving are one son, Timothy, and two daughters, Colleen and Molly 
Coogan, all at home.  He majored in mechanical engineering at 
Bradley University. He worked at Catepillar Inc. for 29 years, last 
working in the transmission business unit in East Peoria.  He was a 
member of St. Edward's Catholic Church in Chillicothe, where he 
served on the parish council. He coached girls basketball at St. 
Edward's School and girls softball in Rome.  He was a member of 
Peoria Casting Club, Chillicothe Sportsmens Club and the National 
Rifle Association.  Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at his 
church. The Rev. B.K. Tran will officiate. Visitation will be from 
6 to 8 tonight at the church with recitation of the rosary at 7:30. 
Additional visitation will be one hour before services at the 
church.  Burial will be in Chillicothe City Cemetery. Arrangements 
are by Weber Funeral Home.  Memorials may be made to St. Edward's 
School or the cancer care unit at St. Francis Medical Center.

ELIZABETH DIERSING - LINCOLN - Elizabeth "Betty" Diersing, 75, of 
Lincoln died at 8:50 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 21, 1993, at her home. Born 
Aug. 8, 1918, in Lincoln to Aloif and Mary Hassenstab Feldman, she 
married John J. Coogan on July 7, 1945. She married Alvin Diersing 
on Sept. 25, 1971. He died July 16, 1974. She also was preceded in 
death by one daughter and one brother. Surviving are one son, Steven 
Coogan, and three daughters, Cathy Darter, Deborah Soloman and 
Denise Coogan, all of Lincoln; and seven grandchildren. She was a 
clothing clerk for the Department of Mental Health at the Lincoln 
Developmental Center in Lincoln, retiring in 1983. She was a member 
of Holy Family Catholic Church in Lincoln and was past president of 
the Holy Family Society. She was a member of the Daughters of 
Isabella and was a past president of the American Legion Auxiliary 
in Lincoln and the ESA sorority. She also was a past officer of the 
40 et 8 Auxiliary in Lincoln. Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Friday 
at her church. Monsignor Norman Goodman and the Rev. Robert Eimer 
will officiate. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 tonight at Kerrigan 
Funeral Home in Lincoln, where recitation of the rosary will be at 
7:45 p.m. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery in Lincoln. 
Memorials may be made to the Visiting Nurse Association of Central 
Illinois or the St. Jude Midwest Affiliate.

JOHN COOGAN - LINCOLN - John William Coogan, 39, of Port Saint 
Lucie, Fla., the son of a Lincoln resident, died at 12:55 p.m. 
Monday, May 1, 1995, at his home.  He was born May 25, 1955, in 
Lincoln to James F. and Edith Heinzel Coogan.  Surviving are his 
mother of Lincoln; one brother, Jim "Jim Boy" of Mount Pulaski; and 
two sisters, Colleen Cyrulik of Mount Pulaski and Kathleen Wilham 
of Shelbina, Mo. He was preceded in death by his father on Sept. 
29, 1984. Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Fricke-Calvert- 
Schrader Funeral Home in Mount Pulaski. Monsignor Norman Goodman 
will officiate. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 tonight at the 
funeral home, with a prayer service at 7:45 p.m. Burial will be in 
Steenbergen Cemetery in rural Mount Pulaski.  Memorials may be made 
to the Hospice of Martin County in Stuart, Fla., Mount Pulaski

EAST PEORIA, IL - Harriet Evangeline Burchell, 83, formerly of East 
Peoria, died at 7:55 a.m. Monday, April 30, 2001, at Washington 
Christian Village in Washington, IL. Born March 23, 1918, in Peoria 
to Lawrence "Packy" and Myrtle Mae Parry Coogan, she married 
Maynard W.J. Burchell on Oct. 1, 1938, in East Peoria. He died July 
18, 1966, in Creve Coeur. Surviving are two daughters, Anna 
Burchell of Washington and Sally (and Larry) Hodge of Peoria; six 
grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. She was a bookkeeper 
for Hawk Agency Inc. in Peoria for 30 years, retiring Jan. 1, 1998. 
She was a former president of LaSalle School District PTA and was a 
volunteer box office assistant at Corn Stock Theatre in Peoria. She 
was a member of First United Methodist Church in East Peoria. 
Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Remmert Funeral Home. The 
Rev. Walter Wilkins will officiate. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 
p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Fondulac 
Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the East Peoria High School 
Alumni Association.

EILEEN COOGAN - PEORIA - Eileen A. Coogan, 80, of 9332 Pine Tree 
died at 8:55 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 29, 2003, at her residence.  Born 
April 1, 1923, in Peoria to Tom and Sarah McBurney O'Brien, she 
married James Coogan on Nov. 30, 1946, in Peoria.  He survives.  
Also surviving are three sons, Paul of Peoria, Jim (and Annie-
Laurie) of Santa Fe, N.M., and Tom of Washington, D.C.; two 
daughters, Sheila (and Michael) Caminiti of River Forrest and 
Christy (and John) Frampton of Peoria; one brother, Tom O'Brien of 
Peoria; and nine grandchildren.  She was a member of St. Thomas 
Catholic Church in Peoria and its Martha Group and Catholic Women's 
League.  A funeral Mass will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at her church. 
Monsignor William Watson will officiate. Visitation will be from 6 
to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Wright & Salmon Mortuary, with recitation of 
the rosary at 7:45 p.m.  Further visitation will be 30 minutes

ANN WOMBACHER - PEORIA - Ann Coogan Wombacher, 77, of 7622 N. Patton 
Lane died at 1:15 p.m. Thursday, May 26, 2005, at her residence. 
Born June 24, 1927, in Bloomington to Paul and Elizabeth Shields 
Coogan, she married William Bergan Wombacher on June 16, 1951, in 
Peoria. He died April 9, 1990, in Peoria. She also was preceded in 
death by one sister. Surviving are two sons, William (and Patricia) 
of Peoria and John (and Leslie) of Bucksport, Maine; five daughters, 
Jo (and John) Duchene of Mahomet, Elizabeth (and Dennis) May of 
Ankeny, Iowa, Mary (and James) Hoffman of San Antonio, Texas, 
Catherine (and Kevin) Babis of Trumbull, Conn., and Margaret (and 
Francis) Renou of Royal Oak, Mich.; 16 grandchildren; three brothers, 
James Coogan and Paul (and Joan) Coogan , both of Peoria, and Dr. 
Philip (and Dr. Joan) Coogan of Johnson City, Tenn.; and two sisters, 
Mary Coogan of Chicago and Dr. Katherine (and Dr. Robert) Ward of 
Owensboro, Ky. A lifelong resident of Peoria, she was a graduate of 
Clark College in Dubuque, Iowa. A teacher, she taught at Timber 
Township High School in Glasford and was a tutor for Peoria School 
District 150 and Illinois Central College's Downtown Peoria campus. 
She was a member of the Peoria Bar Association Ladies Auxiliary and 
Mount Hawley Country Club. She was a member of St. Vincent de Paul 
Catholic Church and its Guild. A funeral Mass will be 10 a.m. 
Tuesday at her church. The Rev. Thomas Szydlik and Monsignor William 
Watson will officiate. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday at 
the church. Entombment will be in Resurrection Mausoleum.

PAULINE COOGAN - PEORIA - Pauline Martha Coogan, 99, of 7019 N. 
Galena Road, Peoria, passed away at 12:55 a.m. Friday, July 6, 2007, 
at Lutheran Hillside Village.  Pauline was born April 12, 1908, in 
Peoria, the daughter of Christian and Anna (Hahn) Lehmann. She 
married Daniel Coogan in Peoria on June 16, 1928. He preceded her 
in death on March 25, 1984, in Peoria.  She is survived by four 
grandchildren, Jay (Dana) Bartoli of Morton, Paula (Jerome) Jones 
of Prescott, Ariz., Renee Ogle of Grand Prairie, Texas, and Daniel 
(Tori) Bartoli of Chandler, Ariz.; and several nieces and nephews.  
She was preceded in death by her parents; one daughter, Joan 
Bartoli; two brothers; and two sisters.  She was a member of St. 
Philomena's Catholic Church.  Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. 
Monday, July 9, 2007, at St. Joseph Cemetery. The Rev. Paul S. Park 
will officiate. The Wilton Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.

MARY JANE COOGAN - PEORIA - Mary Jane Coogan, 83, of the 
Resurrection Retirement Community on Peterson Avenue in Chicago, 
formerly of Peoria, passed away at 6:45 a.m., Sunday, Jan. 18, 2009, 
at Resurrection Hospital in Chicago after losing her battle with 
cancer.  She was born Feb. 1, 1925, in Bloomington, Ill., to Paul M. 
and Elizabeth Shields Coogan.  She is survived by three brothers, 
James Coogan of Peoria, Dr. Philip (Joan) Coogan of Franklin, Tenn., 
and Paul (Joanne) Coogan of Peoria; one sister, Catherine (Robert) 
Ward of Bowling Green, Ky.; and 23 nieces and nephews.  She was 
preceded in death by two sisters, Ann Coogan Wombacher and Virginia 
Crouse.  Mary Jane earned her Ph.D. in English from Loyola 
University in Chicago, master's from S.L.U. and bachelor's from 
Clarke College.  She retired after teaching for more than 30 years 
at Wells and Lane Tech high schools in Chicago.  She also retired 
from working in the baby department at the downtown Marshall Field's 
store.  Of herself, Mary Jane said simply in the family history, The 
Coogan Croinic, "I am an English Teacher in the Chicago Public 
Schools, where I have been since 1954.  I am thankful for the many 
good things I have had in my life and hope that I can, in a small 
way, repay kindnesses I have received, by passing them along to 
others."  Mary Jane loved when her nieces and nephews and their 
children would visit her at Marshall Field's and she could shower 
them with clothes, lunch and her own special kindness.  She loved 
her extended family and set an example of unconditional love
that will serve as her legacy.  A funeral Mass will be at 11:30 
a.m., Friday, Jan. 23, 2009, at St. Vincent de Paul Church, with the 
Rev. Dustin Schultz officiating.  Visitation will be one hour before 
the Mass at the church.  Burial will follow at St. Mary's Cemetery

PAUL COOGAN - PEORIA - Paul T. Coogan, 58, of Peoria passed away at
6:47 p.m. on Sunday, Aug. 29, 2010, at his residence.  He was born
on March 10, 1952, to James M. and Eileen O'Brian Coogan Sr.  
Surviving are his father of Peoria; two brothers, James Jr. (Annie
Laurie) Coogan of Santa Fe, N.M, and Thomas (Belinda Chambika)
Coogan of Washington, D.C.; two sisters, Sheila (Michael) Caminiti
of Winston Salem, N.C., and Christy (John) Frampton of Dunlap, Ill.;
and his nieces and nephews, Caitlin Coogan, Michael Coogan, Devin
Coogan, Mairead Coogan, Joseph Caminiti, Jeana Caminiti, Johnny
Frampton, Tommy Frampton, and Liz Frampton.  He was preceded in 
death by his mother. Paul was a 1970 graduate of Bergan High School.
He was a member of St. Thomas Catholic Church in Peoria Heights,
where a memorial Mass will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, Sept. 2,
2010, with Msgr. William Watson officiating.  Visitation will be
held from 5 to 7 p.m. on Wednesday at Wright & Salmon Mortuary, with
recitation of the rosary at 6:45 p.m.  Additional visitation will
be 30 minutes before the Mass at the church.  Cremation rites have
been accorded.  Graveside services with burial of ashes will be at
1:30 p.m. on Thursday at St. Mary's Cemetery in West Peoria.

JAMES COOGAN SR. - PEORIA - James M. Coogan Sr., 90, of Peoria, 
passed away on February 5, 2013 at 7:30 a.m. at OSF St. Clare Home. 
James was born July 19, 1922 in Bloomington, IL to Paul and 
Elizabeth (Shields) Coogan. He married Eileen O’Brien on November 
30, 1946 in Peoria. She passed away November 29, 2003 in Peoria. 
One son, Paul, and three sisters, Mary Jane Coogan, Anne Wombacher 
and Virginia “Binny” Crouse, also preceded him in death.  He is 
survived by two sons, James (Annie Laurie) Coogan Jr. of Santa Fe, 
NM, and Thomas (Belinda Chambika) Coogan of Alexandria, VA; two 
daughters, Sheila (Michael) Caminiti of Winston-Salem, NC, and 
Christy (John) Frampton of Dunlap; two brothers, Paul (Joanne) 
Coogan of Peoria, and Dr. Philip (Joan) Coogan of Franklin, TN; one 
sister, Catherine (Robert) Ward of Boling Green, KY; grandchildren, 
Caitlin, Michael, Devin, and Mairead Coogan, Joseph and Jeana 
Caminiti, and Johnny, Tommy, and Liz Frampton; and many nieces and 
nephews.  James graduated from Spalding Academy in 1940 and then 
from Notre Dame in 1944 with a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical 
Engineering. He served in the US Army during World War II. He later 
went on to work at Aggregate Equipment and Supply Co. in Peoria, 
starting as store manager and later retired as the rental manager.  
He was a member of St. Thomas Catholic Church.  Funeral Mass will 
be 11 a.m., Thursday, February 14, 2013 at St. Thomas Daily Mass 
Chapel. Father Thomas Taylor will officiate. Visitation will be from 
5-7 p.m., Wednesday, February 13, 2013 at Wright & Salmon Mortuary. 
Recitation of the Rosary will be at 7 p.m., following the visitation 
at the mortuary. An additional visitation will be 30 minutes prior 
to the Mass at the church.  Burial will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery.

PAUL M. COOGAN (1930 - 2017) - PEORIA - Paul Matthew Coogan, age 
87, of Peoria, Illinois, passed away Friday, September 22, 2017, 
at Lutheran Hillside Village.  Born August 26, 1930, in Peoria, 
Illinois, to Paul M. Coogan and Elizabeth Shields Coogan, he grew 
up on the corner of Wisconsin and Nebraska, with his 6 siblings, 
Jim, Anne, Mary Jane, Virginia, Katie and Phil, along with Trella 
and Mabel Foster, who joined the family in 1930 to assist their 
mother in raising a family. Paul attended St. Bernard's School 
and Parish, Spalding and University of Notre Dame, Harvard 
University (Business Program) and Bradley University. In 1957, he 
met Joanne Jordan in the Jefferson Building while she was working 
for Dr. Canterbury. According to Paul, the best choice he ever 
made was marrying Joanne. They married on October 18, 1958, at St. 
Cecilia's in Peoria. Paul is survived by his wife, Joanne A. Coogan 
of Peoria; and their 5 children, Daniel (Joanna Norick) Coogan of 
Tubac, Arizona, Bridget (Daniel) Manning of Des Moines, Kathleen 
Coogan of Ft. Myers, Paul (Katie Brookhart) Coogan of Milwaukee and 
Christopher (Margaret Boyle) of Loveland, Colorado. Paul is also 
survived by his 12 grandchildren, Maureen Schiel, Katie (Bryan) 
Johnson, Daniel Manning, Molly Manning, Ryan Coogan, Erin Coogan, 
Charlie Coogan, Jack Coogan, Matthew Coogan, Thomas Coogan, Brendan 
Coogan and Phillip Coogan. He is also survived by 3 great-grand-
children, Caroline and Norah Johnson and Lydia Schiel. Paul is also 
survived by his sister, Katie Ward of Bowling Green; sister-in-law, 
Joan Coogan of Nashville; and 25 loving nieces and nephews. In 
particular, his niece, Christy Coogan Frampton and her children, 
Tommy, Johnny and Liz, provided Paul and Joanne with much love and 
support over the years. The family expresses their gratitude for 
such kind and compassionate care and support. Paul was predeceased 
by his parents; his sisters, Mary Jane Coogan of Chicago, Anne 
Wombacher and her husband, Bill Wombacher, of Peoria and Virginia 
Crouse and her husband, Richard Crouse; brother, Jim Coogan and his 
wife, Eileen Coogan; his brother, Phil Coogan; and his sister-in-
law, Virginia Jordan. Paul founded and operated Aggregate Equipment 
Company and StorAWay and had a true appreciation for all of the 
people with whom he had the great fortune to work with. During his 
volunteer efforts with several social agencies and schools, he 
worked with many dedicated, interesting and inspiring individuals 
who helped make society worthwhile and his retirement years 
enjoyable. The family would also like to express their gratitude 
towards the registered nurses, Rosie Kouri, Kristina Swardenski, 
Teresa Thomas, Joanne Hoerr, Alexandra Hoerr, Lisa Leman, Karen 
Leman, Pam Ober, Deb Reinertsen, Anne Schaumburg, Toni Gibbs, Jill 
Heath, Tara McGinnis and Laurie Wilbur, for their kindness, 
compassion and care to both Paul and Joan over the past two years. 
And a special thanks to Dr. Tom Kouri. Funeral services will be 
held at 11 a.m. Monday, October 2, 2017, at St. Vincent de Paul 
Catholic Church, with a visitation from 9:30 to 11 a.m. Father 
James Pallardy will officiate. Burial will follow at Resurrection 
Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials in Paul's name, may be made

JOANNE A. COOGAN (1933-2018) - PEORIA - Joanne A. Coogan, age 84, 
of Peoria passed away on Monday, July 23, 2018, at Lutheran 
Hillside Village. Joanne was born on September 3, 1933, in Chicago, 
a daughter of Daniel and Agnes (Campion) Jordan. She married Paul 
M. Coogan on October 18, 1958, at St. Cecilia's in Peoria. He 
preceded her in death on Friday, September 22, 2017. She is 
survived by their 5 children, Daniel (Joanna Norick) Coogan of 
Tubac, Arizona, Bridget (Daniel) Manning of Des Moines, Kathleen 
Coogan of Ft. Myers, Paul (Katie Brookhart) Coogan of Milwaukee 
and Christopher (Margaret Boyle) of Loveland, Colorado. Joanne is 
also survived by 12 grandchildren, Maureen (Mike) Holsen, Katie 
(Bryan) Johnson, Daniel Manning, Molly Manning, Ryan Coogan, Erin 
Coogan, Charlie Coogan, Jack Coogan, Matthew Coogan, Thomas Coogan, 
Brendan Coogan and Phillip Coogan; and 3 great-grandchildren, 
Caroline and Norah Johnson and Lydia Schiel, with another great-
granddaughter due in September. Also surviving are 2 sisters, Mary 
Arends of Indianapolis and Sue (Dave) Willey of Sycamore, IL; 
brother, Dan (Pat) Jordan of Western Springs, IL; and numerous 
nieces and nephews. Joanne was a graduate of the Academy of Our 
Lady in 1951. She was a member of St. Vincent de Paul Catholic 
Church. She was a teacher and then worked for Dr. Canterbury. She 
was a long-time volunteer with the Cub Scout Troops, the Girl 
Scouts and the Friendship House. She was a member of the Red Hat 
Society and the Peoria Garden Club. She started the collection of 
food for the poor, after mass, at her church. The family would 
also like to express their gratitude towards the registered nurses,

Joanne Hoerr, Alexandra Hoerr, Lisa Leman, Karen Leman, Pam Ober,
