ELLEN COOGAN - The funeral of Mrs. Ellen Coogan, widow of John Coogan, took place yesterday morning at her late residence, 14 Bradley Street, at 8:30 o'clock, and at St. Patrick's church at 9 o'clock. The clergymen were Rev. Father O'Connor, Ireland; Rev. Father Duggan, deacon; Rev. Father O'Connell, sub-deacon, and Rev. Father Russell, master of ceremonies. The bearers were James Reilly, John Moore, Francis Ryan, John Toohy, Patrick McGuiness and Charles Shanahan. (Jack) Casey and mother of Mrs. Peter (Eileen) Jachym of New York City. She is the sister of Frances Ahern and the late Rita Coogan and Rosemary Kiley. Mrs. Casey was born in New Haven, Jan. 13, 1917, daughter of the late James E. and Mary Lonergan Coogan. She was the retired managing editor of the American Journal of Science at Yale University. Mrs. Casey was a 1939 graduate of The College of New Rochelle, a member and past president of the American Association of University Woman and a former volunteer for the Recording of the Blind Assoc. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in St. Rita Church, Whitney Ave., Hamden, Thursday morning at 10 o'clock. Burial in St. Lawrence Cemetery. Wife of the late Michael S. Ahern. Born in New Haven May 3, 1920 daughter of the late James E. and Mary Ellen (Lonergan) Coogan. Prior to her retirement she was an executive secretary for Yale Medical Research and the Pierce Foundation. Survivors include her brother in law John P. Kiely, nieces and caregivers Sharon Kiely, Patricia Kiely, Joan Kiely, Maureen Giusti and Eileen Jachym; a nephew, James Kiely and several great nieces and nephews. Coogan passed away peacefully with his family by his side. Born July 20, 1942, loving son of Mary Moran and the late Raymond Coogan. He is survived by his sons, Ray (Denise) Coogan and Christopher (Michelle) Coogan of Hamden, also his stepchildren James Fitzgerald of New Haven and Beth (Glenn) Karwic of Wethersfield. Raymond was the beloved grandfather "Papa" to Emily and Sarah Karwic, Caitlin and Maeve Coogan. Also survived by his sisters Eileen (Robert) Moran, Ann (Bill) Fitzgerald and his former wife Stashia Fitzgerald and numerous nieces and nephews. He leaves his dear friends Rich and Fred. She was predeceased by her loving husband James W. Fitzgerald, parents Raymond Coogan and Mary Cohane Coogan Moran, brother Raymond Coogan and sister Eileen Coogan Moran. Anne leaves her sons, Ted (Leigh) Fitzgerald, Patrick (Amy) Fitzgerald, both of Meriden, Matthew (Heather) Fitzgerald of Cheshire, James (Nicole) Fitzgerald of North Haven, nine beautiful grandchildren, Jack, Taylor, Madelyn, Kaelyn, Reagan, James, Ally, Jess, and Rylan.
