COOGAN] - The funeral of James J. Coogan, assistant superintendent of the New Haven almshouse, who died suddenly Thursday morning, will be held from St. Mary's church, New Haven, tomorrow morning. Mr. Coogan leaves a widow and one son, John W. Coogan. Richard Coogan, janitor of the police building is his brother, and his stepbrothers are John F., William H. and Henry. Mrs. Nellie Cannon is his half sister and his stepmother resides on Bradley street. The deceased was a member of Columbia council, Knights of Columbus; Court Metropolitan, A.O.F. of A.; the Knights of St. Patrick, and division 5, A.O.H. During the war he was a member of Company E, Sixth regiment, and was a sergeant of the company. 24 NOV 1898 - "Obituary" ["Weekly Republican" - PAGE 3] [CATHERINE COOGAN] - Mrs. Catherine Coogan, aged 72 years, died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Thomas Burke, 178 Camp street, yesterday. She leaves two children, John J. Coogan and Mrs. Thomas Burke. The funeral will be held from the house tomorrow morning at 8:30, and at St. Rose's church at 9 o'clock. 03 JAN 1959 - ["Record" - PAGE 4] JOHN F. COOGAN - John F. Coogan, 56, of 18 Welcome St., died suddenly yesterday afternoon while on his job at the Stanley - Judd Division plant. Medical Examiner Dr. James F. Ferguson, Jr. said death was caused by a heart attack. A long time resident here, Mr. Coogan was a member of the Loyal Order of Moose and the St. Pierre Club. Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Anna DeBaise Coogan; two sons, James and John; four sisters, Mrs. Loretta Homer, Mrs. Dorothy Manfreda, Mrs. Alice B. Dighello and Miss Florence Coogan. Funeral will be held Monday at 8:15 a.m. from the Thomas E. Fitzgerald Funeral Home, 43 Church St., and at 9 a.m. at Holy Trinity Church. Homer (Hiob) of 28 Franklin St., died early yesterday morning at Memorial Hospital. Mrs. Homer was born in Wallingford, the daughter of the late John and Margaret (Lynch) Coogan, and resided here all of her life. She was a parishioner of Holy Trinity Church, a member of The Order of Pocohantas and Pinta Ladies. Besides her husband, she is survived by one son, Richard C. Homer; three sisters, Mrs. James Manfreda, Miss Florence E. Coogan and Mrs. Fred Dighello, all of Wallingford; one niece and two nephews. Funeral services will be held Thursday at 8:15 a.m. from the Thomas E. Fitzgerald Funeral Home, 43 Church St. and at 9 o'clock at Holy Trinity Church for a solemn high mass of requiem. Coogan, of 18 Welcome St., was held Wednesday at 9:15 a.m. at the Thomas E. Fitzgerald Funeral Home, 43 Church St. to Holy Trinity Church at 10. The Rev. Alfred R. Merusi celebrated the Mass of Christian Burial, assisted by the Rev. Daniel J. Sullivan and the Rev. Francis Pitaro. Kate Grana was soloist. Stephen Lee was organist. Burial was at St. John's Cemetery. The pallbearers were Ronald DeBaise, Michael DeBaise, Thomas DeBaise, Vincent Bertomeu, Eugenne Rametta and Robin Slavinski, all nephews. The honorary pallbearers were Larry Brill, and Gifford Harrington. Mrs. Coogan died Sunday at the Hospital of St. Raphael, New Haven. 15 JUN 1990 - "Obituaries" ["Record-Journal" - PAGE "11"] JEAN COOGAN - WALLINGFORD - Jean Sikorski Coogan, 78, of Washington Street, died Thursday, June 14, 1990, at St. Francis Hospital, Hartford. She was the wife of the late Irving J. Coogan. Mrs. Coogan was born in Buffalo, N.Y., a daughter of the late John and Julia Sikorski. She was raised in New Haven, and had been a Wallingford resident for many years. Mrs. Coogan had been employed for several years at Unimax Corp. in Wallingford, and later at Mossberg Firearms Co. in North Haven until her retirement in 1977. She was a parishoner of Most Holy Trinity Church. She is survived by her daughter, Margaret J. Coogan of Wallingford, two brothers, Anthony Sikorski of Yalesville section of Wallingford, and Stanley Sikorski of Hamden; four sisters, Mrs. Clayton (Marion) Kowalski of New Haven, Mrs. Charles (Helen) Gargano of Lutz, Fla., Mrs. Richard (Claire) Stevenson of the Northford section of North Branford, and Mrs. Russell (Eleanor) Dwyer of New Haven, and several nieces and newphews. She was predeceased by a son, Richard J. Coogan, a sister, Josephine Dobrowlski and two brothers, Walter and John Sikorski. The funeral will be held at 9:30 a.,. Monday at the Yalesville Funeral Home, 386 Main St., Yalesville, followed by a mass of Christian burial at 10:30 a.m. at Most Holy Trinity Church.
