COOGAN - Funeral services for Harry L. Coogan, 49, who died Saturday morning at the Beloit General hospital, were held Monday in Beloit and interment was made here. COOGAN - Elkhorn, WI - (1935 - 2011) - [photo; caption: "February 15, 1935 - December 8, 2011"] - Richard "Dick" J. Coogan, 76, of Elkhorn, WI, died unexpectedly Dec. 8, 2011. He was born in Watertown, WI, on Feb. 15, 1935, the son of Neil and Lillian (Cameron) Coogan. He graduated from Watertown High School. On Aug. 25, 1935, he was united in marriage to Marilyn R. Kennedy in Watertown, WI. He graduated from the University of Wisconsin- Madison with a Master's Degree in social Work. He began his career as a social worker at Mendota State Hospital in Oshkosh, WI, and later moved to Elkhorn, where he was the administrator of the Walworth County Nursing Home. He worked there until 1979. He, then, served as the administrator of Franciscan Villa Nursing Home in South Milwaukee until he retired in 1993. Richard was a former member of the Elkhorn Lion's Club and served on the board of Directors of VIP Services. Dick is survived by his wife of 55 years, Marilyn; one daughter, Bridget (Bill) Trewyn of Elkhorn; son-in-law, Tom (Jamie) Stepp of Elkhorn; three grandchildren: Ryan and Cameron Stepp and Signe Trewyn; two brothers, Frank Coogan of West Allis, WI, and David (Carol) Coogan of FL; and one sister, Patricia (Jim) Rickert of NC. Richard was preceded in death by his parents; one infant son; one daughter, Claire M. Stepp; and his brother, Dan Coogan. COOGAN - Elkhorn, WI - (1935 - 2012) - July 25, 1935 - August 6, 2012 - Marilyn R. Coogan, 77, of Territorial Road, Elkhorn, WI, died unexpectedly Monday, Aug. 6, 2012, at Aurora St. Luke’s Medical Center, Milwaukee, WI. Marilyn was born July 25, 1935, in Auburndale, WI. She was the daughter of the late Ray and Stella (Markee) Kennedy. She graduated from Watertown High School in 1953, Dodge County Teacher’s College in 1955, and earned her Master’s of Education degree from the University of Wisconsin- Whitewater in 1978. Marilyn married Richard “Dick” J. Coogan on Aug. 25, 1956, in Watertown, WI. It was also in 1956, that Marilyn started her 31 year career in teaching. She started teaching in a one-room school house. She was hired by the Elkhorn Area School District in 1970, where she taught until her retirement in 1997. She was a member of the Walworth County Historical Society, where she enjoyed teaching students about Wisconsin history in the Blooming Prairie School House located in the park at the Walworth County Fair Grounds. Marilyn is survived by her daughter, Bridget (William) Trewyn; and son-in-law, Tom (Jamie) Stepp; three grandchildren: Ryan and Cameron Stepp and Signe Trewyn, all of Elkhorn, WI; two sisters, Kathleen Russell of San Francisco, CA, and Myrtle Schulte of Marshfield, WI. Marilyn was preceded in death by her husband of 55 years, Dick; infant son, Christopher; daughter, Claire Stepp; three sisters: Connie Leick, Joyce Libra and June Bevilaqua; and one brother, Jim Kennedy.
