A. COOGAN DIED AT RIPLEY HOME - RIPLEY - Joseph A. Coogan, 66, died Friday [27 JUL 1956] at his home, 45 East Main street. Mr. Coogan was born in Paterson, N.J., March 11, 1890, the son of the late Dennis and Mary Nolan Coogan. He was a retired cook and had lived in Ripley for the past 27 years. He operated his own restaurant here for a number of years. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Bessie Whitney Coogan, a son, Douglas Coogan, of Kenmore, a grandchild and a brother, Val Coogan of Chicago. A World War I veteran, he was a member of Charles Morehouse Post, American Legion, which will conduct the military funeral. 08 APR 1963 - [PAGE 4] MARILYN COOGAN DIES HERE ON SUNDAY - Mrs. Marilyn Joanne Coogan, wife of Jack Coogan, 450 Lake Shore Drive, West, Dunkirk, died unexpectedly Sunday afternoon in Brooks hospital at the age of 24 years. A native of Jamestown, she had resided in Dunkirk for the past three years. She was a member of St. Mary's church, the Brooks hospital women's auxiliary, and the [Jayncees]. Besides her husband, she is survived by her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Eric Risberg of Jamestown; two sisters, Mrs. Jeanette [Illig] and Miss Pamela Risberg, of Jamestown; a brother, Vernon Risberg of Jamestown. 24 MAR 1972 - "Obituaries" [PAGE 2] (incomplete) JOHN W. COOGAN SR., 67, DIES AT BROOKS HOSPITAL - A Dunkirk businessman whose name is synonymous with the trucking industry, John W. Coogan, St., president of the Chautauqua Truck Sales and Service, Inc. and Chadakoin Truck Leasing Corp., died Thursday afternoon at Brooks Hospital at age 67 following an extended illness. Mr. Coogan, who resided at 417 Temple St., Dunkirk, was the former owner of Lake Shore Delivery Inc., the trucking firm founded by his father, the late Raymond Coogan in 1920. Mr. Coogan had been associated with the firm for 48 years before selling the business in 1968. Lake Shore Delivery Inc. was honored Feb. 20, 1967 by the Dunkirk Chamber of Commerce at its annual banquet not only for its long-time service to the community but also for the civic-minded contribution made to the community by the management. [photo; caption: "JOHN W. COOGAN SR."] Born in Buffalo, Mr. Coogan spent his early years in Sheridan before coming to Dunkirk 60 years ago. He also served as vice president of Coogan-Campbell Moving and Storage Inc. Mr. Coogan was a member of St. Mary's Church, its Holy Name Society, and the First Friday Club. He was a fourth degree member of the Knights of Columbus, a member of the Chautauqua County Traffic Safety Board, Shorewood Country Club, Northern Chautauqua Conservation Club, Traffic and Transportation Clubs of Dunkirk, Buffalo, Erie, Jamestown and Bradford, National Motor Freight Classification Bureau, Dunkirk Chamber of Commerce, Dunkirk Lake Side Club and was an honorary member of the Junior Chamber of Commerce. He was an unsuccessful Republican candidate for mayor of Dunkirk in 1961. Other Activities: Active in Boy Scouting, Mr. Coogan was a board member of the Chautauqua County Council, Boy Scouts of America, where he also served as financial chairman and national delegate. He was a past president of the Dunkirk Lions Club, a member of the advisory board of Manufacturing and Traders Trust Co., was a past president of the Niagara Frontier Tarriff Bureau and was a director of the New York State Motor Carrier Conference. Mr. Coogan is survived by his wife, Mrs. Margaret Connelly Coogan of Dunkirk; a son, John W. Coogan, Jr. of Upper Montclair, N.J.; six daughters, Mrs. Joseph (Jane) Foley, Fort Meade, Md., Mrs. Frederick (Mary Ann) Holzwarth, St. Augustine, Fla., Mrs. Norman (Peggy) Stroth and Mrs. Walter (Kathleen) Lyons of East Aurora, Mrs. James (Rae) Cassidy of Fredonia, and Mrs. David (Susan) Forney of Olean. Also surviving are his mother, Mrs. Amy Coogan of Sheridan; a brother, Harry E. The widow of Raymond Coogan, who founded a trucking firm in 1919 in Sheridan, she was born in Sheridan and lived there all her life. She was a member of St. John Bosco Church. Mrs. Coogan is survived by a son, Harry Coogan of Sheridan; a daughter, Mrs. Jack (Mary) Pattyson of Baldwin; 10 grandchildren; 42 great-grand- children. She was predeceased March 23 of this year by a son, John W.
