She was born to the late William J. and Verna N. Kitchener, June 13, 1931, in Blakely, Pennsylvania. Following her school years, Verna followed a calling to fly. Her career began as a flight attendant with Pan American Airlines, Eastern Airlines, Overseas National and culminated as the Chief Stewardess of Inter- Continental Airlines in Luxembourg. After Luxembourg, Verna settled in Paris, France, remaining overseas for many years. Upon returning to the U.S., she met and married her loving companion, Gordon Coogan in 1977. They spent many happy years together in New York City, New York, Ogunquit and Wells, Maine, Newport, Rhode Island and Nice, France before relocating to Columbus, Ohio. Verna was an active member of Covenant Baptist Church where she served as an organizer for the communion services. She had a passion for travel and saw many parts of the world in her lifetime, but her greatest loves were her Lord and her family. Verna is survived by husband of 36 years, Gordon G. Coogan; brother, Herbert Kitchener, of Philadelphia; and twin sister, Vera (Kitchener) Kirk of Columbus. She is also survived by three nieces and a nephew to whom she was devoted; as well as three beloved stepchildren and many great nieces and great nephews. She is preceded in death by her brother, Earl Kitchener and a stepson, Alexander Coogan. Friends are invited to attend a Celebration of Verna's life at Covenant Baptist Church, 5100 Dierker Rd., Columbus, OH. 43220 on Thursday, December 26, 2013.
