Coogan, 71, of Morris St., Albany, a member of the Army's "Fighting 69th" during World War I. He died Dec. 18 at Veterans Administration hospital after a brief illness. The Coogan family lived in Altamont several years ago. Born in New York city, Mr. Coogan was a shipping clerk with the American Aluminum Com. in Connecticut until his retirement five years ago when he moved to Albany. Survivors include his wife, the former Margaret M. Stevens; two daughters, Mrs. Robert Whipple and Mrs. Todd Pulliam; five sons, James E., USAF Retired Major Bernard J., USAF Maj. Charles O., Gerard F. and Robert E. Coogan; a sister, Sister Mary Magdalene of St. Clair's Convent in Staten Island; and 20 grandchildren. 24 FEB 1994 - "Obituaries" [PAGE 19] MARGARET M. COOGAN - GUILDERLAND - Margaret M. Coogan, 92, of Brandywine Parkway, died Monday in Worthington, Ohio, where she was stricken while visiting her son Charles. Mrs. Coogan was born in Saugus, Mass., and lived in Westchester County for many years before moving to the Capital District, where she lived in Berne, Altamont and Guilderland. Mrs. Coogan was a manager for Western Union in New York City. About 15 years ago, after her 65th birthday, she went to work part time at the state Department of Law. "She did filing and got papers ready," said Deborah Degan, her oldest grand- daughter. "She worked in the department where they do student loans." Mrs. Coogan did clerical work at the department for about 10 years. "She was just a person who liked to work," Mrs. Degan said. "She didn't have many hobbies." She said her grandmother had loved to travel and visit various senior citizen groups, and her health held up until very near the end of her life. "Up until a few months ago, she was still living in her own apartment, getting out to church and stuff," Mrs. Degan said. She was a communicant of Christ the King Church in Guilderland, and was a member of the Rosary Society and the Senior Citizens there. She was a member of the Fr. Joseph Boldt Council Columbiettes and a life member of the auxiliary of Boyd Hilton Post, VFW, in Altamont. She was the widow of the late James P. Coogan. Survivors include two daughters, Anne M. Whipple of Knox and Margaret (Peg) Bonderew of Foxboro, Mass.; five sons - Charles O. Coogan of Worthington, James E. Coogan of Guilderland, Bernard J. Coogan of St. Louis, Mo., Girard F. Coogan of Schenectady and Robert E. Coogan of Swansea, Mass.; 25 grandchildren; 34 great- grandchildren; two great-great-grand-daughters; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Services will be at 9 a.m. Saturday morning at the Hans Funeral Home, 1088 Western Ave., Albany and 10 a.m. at Christ the King Church, Sumpter Ave., Guilderland. Relatives and friends may call at the funeral home tomorrow between 4 and 8 p.m. Members of the Boyd Hilton auxiliary will assemble at the funeral home for a 7 p.m. service tomorrow. Burial will be in Our Lady of Angels Cemetery in Colonie. WHIPPLE - KNOX - Anne M. Whipple was a fixture in the Hilltowns. She was a founding member of both the Hilltowns Players, a local theatre group, and the Plank Roaders, a social club that was founded during Knox's sesquicentennial and continuted to help those in need. Mrs. Whipple died on Saturday, Nov. 27, 2004 at St. Clare's Hospital in Schenectady. She was 78. Mrs. Whipple worked as a microfilm librarian for the Board of Cooperative Educational Services program and later for the University of Albany. She was also a member of the Boyd Hilton Veterans of Foreign Wars Ladies' Auxiliary. Mrs. Whipple is survived by her husband, Robert B. Whipple; two daughters, Deborah Degan, and her husband, Michael, of Wilton, N.H., and Martha Durand, and her husband, John, of Howell, N.J.; one son, Brian A. Whipple, and his wife, Kathy, of East Berne; and nine grandchildren. She is also survived by five brothers, James E. Coogan, of Westmere, Bernard J. Coogan, of Lake St. Louis, Mo., Charles O. Coogan, of Worthington, Ohio, Gerard F. Coogan, of Schenectady, and Robert E. Coogan, of Swansea, Mass.; one sister, Margaret Bondorew, of Foxboro, Mass.; and numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral arrangements were made by the Fredendall Funeral Home in Altamont. A Mass of Christian Burial was held on Wednesday, followed by burial in High Point Cemetery in Knox.
