Coogan SR ___________________________________________________________________ (extracted from "Niagara Falls Gazette" [NY], 05 NOV 1964, PAGE 26, COLUMN 1): W. J. COOGAN DIES AT 72 William J. Coogan, 72, of 1225 Military Road, a retired U. S. Immigration Inspector, died today (Nov. 5, 1964) at his home after a short illness. Mr. Coogan was born in Brooklyn Sept. 25, 1892, the son of William and Catherine Coogan. He came to Niagara Falls in 1928. In 1959 he retired after 40 years of government service. He spent 31 years as an immigration inspector and nine years as a Brooklyn Navy Yard employee. He was a member of the Holy Name Society of Prince of Peace Church; a life member of Knights of Columbus Council No. 126, Brooklyn, and a member of Knights of Columbus Countil No. 247, Niagara Falls. Mr. Coogan is survived by his widow, Loretta M. Coogan; two sons, William J. Coogan, Jr., Niagara Falls, and John J. Coogan, Rochester; three daughters, Miss Louisa E. Coogan and Mrs. John W. (Margaret A.) Firth, both of Niagara Falls, and Mrs. Edward (Marry) [sic] Stapleton, North Tonawanda. Seven grandchildren also survive. Services will be held at the Rhoney Funeral Home at 9 a.m. Saturday, and at Prince of Peace Church at 10 a.m. Burial will be in Gate of Heaven Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home from 2 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. today and Friday.
