Coogan of Brooklyn, a freshman at Notre Dame University, South Bend, Ind., died Sunday morning at South Bend. He had been ill for only two days. The young student was born 18 years ago today, the son of the late Dr. William J. Coogan, a native of Kingston who was employed as a reporter on The Freeman during his medical school days, and Mrs. Margaret Patterson [sic] Coogan, of Brooklyn. Surviving are his mother, two younger brothers, John and Robert; and his grand-mother, Mrs. Mary L. Coogan of South Manor avenue, this city. Coogan"] COOGAN, STUDENT AT NOTRE DAME The funeral of William J. Coogan of 603 Putnam Ave., a freshman at Notre Dame University, who died Sunday at St. Joseph's Hospital, South Bend, Ind. of blood poisoning after an illness of three days, will be held Thursday from his home, with a solemn high requiem high mass at 10 a.m. in Our Lady of Victory R.C. Church. Mr. Coogan, who would have been 18 yesterday, was a graduate of Bishop Loughlin Memorial High School, where he was an honor student for four years and had been president of the Dramatic Society, an editor of the school paper, the Jamesonian, and a member of the track team and the Cercle Francais. At Notre Dame he was a member of the Linnet Club and the Notre Dame Club of New York. His father, Dr. William J. Coogan, who was well known in this borough as a physician, died when William was 3. Surviving are his mother, Mrs. Margaret C. Coogan, and two brothers, John R. and Robert F. Coogan. _____________________________________________________________________
