teacher at Cranston West High School for 25 years, retiring in 1987, 
died yesterday [30 NOV 1996] in the Kent Nursing and Rehabilitation 
Center, Warwick.  Born in Providence, a son of the late J. Henry...

Richard J. Coogan '45, East Greenwich, R.I.; Nov. 30. He was founder
and president of Coogan Insurance Agency, West Warwick, R.I., until 
retiring in 1962 to teach English at Cranston East High School, 
where he remained until his retirement in 1987. A past president of 
the Kent County Insurance Agents Association and the West Warwick 
Lions Club, he was a member of the National Council of Teachers of 
English. He is survived by a sister and several nieces and nephews.
