COOGAN The funeral of Melvin Coogan, former professional fighter who died Friday... ...at the residence of... _____________________________________________________________________ (extracted from "New York Times", 01 JAN 1958, PAGE 25): MEL COOGAN Mel Coogan, a former light-weight boxer, died of a heart ailment last Friday [27 DEC 1957] at the home of his daughter, Mrs. John Grant, in Latham, N. Y. He was 65 years old. Mr. Coogan's eight-year boxing career included a two-round knockout in 1919 at the hands of Benny Leonard, lightweight champion. He later served for a few years with the Wood Harmon Company, a real estate firm in Brooklyn, and became manager for various boxers.
