http://www.cooganresearchgroup.com/crg/index.htm 18 April 2010 Obituary of Germaine Marie (Hangley) Coogan _______________________________________________________________________ (extracted from "New York Newsday" [NY], 20 JUN 2000): [NASSAU and SUFFOLK Edition] COOGAN - Germaine Marie, born in West New York, NJ on September 28, 1928, she was the third of eleven children of Charles and Faustine Hangley. She was raised in Long Beach, NY and graduated from St. Joseph's College of Brooklyn in 1950. She began her career teaching kindergarten in Long Beach schools until interupted by job transitions and family responsibilities. She married Eugene A. Coogan in January 1952, and the family subsequently lived in Connecticut, Florida, California and New Hampshire before finally settling in Sunnyvale, Cal., in 1965. In 1970 whe returned to her interrupted career teaching kindergarten at the Hillsdale School of the Franklin-McKinley School District in San Jose until retiring in 1993. Mrs. Coogan continued to teach occasionally at Hillsdale until deteriorating health precluded further activities in 1999. She succumbed to the effects of end-stage lung disease and passed away in peace and comfort on June 17, 2000. "Gerrie" Coogan is survived by her loving husband Eugene and six children; Kathleen Barreto, Patricia Estrada and Dierdre Strait, all of Sunnyvale, Eugene A. "Beanzie" Coogan, Jr. of Campbell, Joseph C. Coogan and his wife Tricia of Mountain View and John P. Coogan and his wife Michelle of San Jose. Also surviving are two grand-daughters, Victoria Barreto and Christina Duran and three great-grandchildren, Davina Lopez, Tiani Lopez and Francisco Aguilar. A viewing will be held from 3-9 PM on Tuesday, June 20th at the Cusimano Family Mortuary on West El Camino in Mountain View with a rosary to be conducted at 7:30 PM. A Mass of Resurrection will be celebrated at 10 AM Wednesday, June 21st at St. Cyprian's Church on Leota Ave. in Sunnyvale. A private family inurnment ceremony will be held at Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Los Altos, at a later date. Donations are requested for the National Shrine of St. Jude, 205 W.
