Coogan and Harriet Gardiner Lynch Coogan... http://books.google.com ____________________________________________________________________ (extracted from "New York Times", 26 MAR 1965, PAGE 35): GARDINER COOGAN, 73, DIES; ONE OF POLO GROUNDS HEIRS Gardiner Coogan, who had been an owner of the Polo Grounds and other real estate holdings, died Wednesday of a heart attack in his suite at the Biltmore Hotel. He was 73 years old. Mr. Coogan graduated from Harvard University in 1915, and served in the aviation section of the Army Signal Corps in World War I with the rank of lieutanant. After the war he earned a law degree from the Harvard Law School in 1919. Mr. Coogan, with his brothers, Jay and W. Gordon Coogan, and his sister, Sarah Jessie Coogan, were equal owners of the Polo Grounds, which the city acquired through condemnation in 1960 as the site of a housing project. Gardiner Coogan is survived by his brothers and sister. They are descendants of the original Polo Grounds owner, James J. Coogan, a former Manhattan Borough President, who died in 1915. ____________________________________________________________________
