http://www.cooganresearchgroup.com/crg/index.htm 19 July 2009 Obituary of Emmons Wellington Coogan _______________________________________________________________________ (extracted from "San Francisco Chronicle", 29 NOV 2005): COOGAN - Emmons Wellington Coogan - Born May 29, 1919 in Oakland, died November 14, 2005 in Los Gatos. He grew up in Alameda and Piedmont, went to Piedmont High School and U.C. Berkeley and was a Delta Tau Delta. In early 1941 he joined the American Field Service and drove ambulances in North Africa for a year. He then joined the Marine Corps and came out a captain in 1945. He married Peggy Slocumb in 1946. He started with Prudential Life Insurance in 1946 in San Francisco and opened the first Prudential Life office in San Jose in 1951. He worked with the certified Life Underwriters, The Heart Association, Children's Home Society, Red Cross Blood Bank, March of Dimes and was man of the year in the fifties. He leaves his wife of 59 1/2 years, Peggy and daughter, Katie and sons, Tim, Michael and Patrick; grandchildren Megan, Michaela and Coogan. He loved his games of golf and happy times at the St. Claire Club playing dominoes with friends. At his request there will be no services.
