Coogan of Hobbs will be held at 9 a.m. on Saturday, Feb. 21, at St. Helena Catholic Church. The Rev. Jose Reyes will officiate. The Rite of Committal will follow at Prairie Haven Cemetery under the direction of Griffin Funeral Home. A vigil will be held Friday at 6 p.m. at St. Helena Catholic Church. The Rev. Donald Adamski is the celebrant. Visitation at the funeral home will be from 2 p.m. until 8 p.m. today, and Friday from 8 a.m. until 5 p.m. Mr. Coogan, 101, died Tuesday, Feb. 17, at Columbia Lea Regional Medical Center. He was born Dec. 31, 1896, in Massachusetts. He was a member of St. Helena Catholic Church and American Legion Post No. 48, in Newton, Mass. He was a veteran, having served in the U.S. Navy during World War I. Mr. Coogan lived in Auburndale, Mass. from the 1940s to the 1960s. He was a member of the Corpus Cristi Parish while living there. Survivors include two daughters, Bonnie Moran of Hobbs and Charlene Geltmacher of Las Vegas, Nev.; a sister, Mrs. Gerald Golden of West Yarmouth, Mass.; 10 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. _________________________________________________________________________ (extracted from "Lubbock Avalanche-Journal" [TX], 20 FEB 1998): CHARLES COOGAN HOBBS, N.M.
