Reared in this city, he is indebted to its public schools for the early educational priviledges he enjoyed, and for twelve years after laying aside his text-books he was employed as telegraph operator by the Chicago & Alton Railroad. He next represented the American Express Company for two years as their agent in Lincoln and in 1898 established the Coogan Baggage & Transfer Company, which has since been in active operation. His trade has steadily increased and he now occupies a substantial position in business circles. On the 18th of June, 1902, was celebrated the marriage of Mr. Coogan and Miss Mary Henry, a native of Durham, England, and they have become the parents of three children, two living, namely: James Adare, who was born January 13, 1904; and Jane Catherine, born December 9, 1906. Mr. Coogan is an honored member of the Knights of Columbus, the Woodmen of the World and the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks. He is quite active in politics and for the past two years has efficiently served as supervisor of East Lincoln township, his official duties being performed in a most commendable and satisfactory manner. He is very popular both in business and political circles and has a host of warm personal friends in the city which has always been his home. ___________________________________________________________________ http://books.google.com
