http://www.cooganresearchgroup.com/crg/index.htm 19 December 2021 COOGAN story appearing in "Harrisburg Daily Register" [Illinois] (11 JUL 1952, PAGE 5): SIDELIGHTS ON GOP CONVENTION CONVENTION HALL, Chicago, (UP) - They liked Ike, Bob, Earl, Harold, and Mac Thursday night (and right on through a few wee hours of this morning). The demonstrations were in the old-time tradition - loud, frantic, and - as was remarked by a philosopher who shall here be nameless - "as spontaneous as money can buy." The nominating prize as far as this observer is concerned went to Fred Coogan, Sayre, Okla., who at 1:01 a.m. placed before the convention the name of a man who does not exist. The name was "Douglas A. MacArthur." There may be somewhere a man named Douglas A. MacArthur - but the famous five star general who made good on his promise of "I shall return" is not he. General MacArthur has no middle initial. And he's been irate for years because from time to time people insist on inserting an "A" between the Doug and the Mac. Chairman Joe Martin pulled the same boner. Announcing whom Coogan was going to place in nomination, he also called the general "Douglas A." [ continues ]
