http://www.cooganresearchgroup.com/crg/index.htm 14 October 2012 COOGAN story ____________________________________________________________________ appearing in "Flake's Bulletin" [Galveston, TX], 09 JAN 1867, VOL IV, ISSUE 45, PAGE 9: A SPECIAL DISPATCH to the New York World from Charleston announces that the South Carolina Legislature rejected the constitutional amendment by a unanimous vote, "with one exception, that of P. J. Coogan, of Charleston, the same man who had to be expelled from that city for disloyalty to the Confederacy during the war with the United States." The author of this statement appears to be under the impression that the charge of "disloyalty to the Confederacy" conveys an overwhelming rebuke to Mr. Coogan, and that fidelity to the Union totally disqualifies him from passing judgment upon the amendment to the Constitution. ____________________________________________________________________
