COOGAN story

appearing in "Trenton State Gazette" [NJ], 16 JUN 1874:

[...]

Four young men, who were returning from Myers' Grove, Staten
Island, to Elizabeth, in a small boat on Sunday, attempted to 
hitch on to a tug boat, and in doing so their boat was capsized.
All clung to the boat except Michael Coogan, who threw up his
hands and disappeared under the water. His body was not recovered.
The others were rescued by the hand onboard the tug boat.

The body of Michael Coogan, the young man who was drowned while
attempting to hitch a small boat to an excursion-boat in New-York
Bay, Sunday night [21 JUN 1874], was recovered yesterday by two
fishermen, about two miles from Elizabethport.
