Research:

This is the family of Patrick Coogan. He was born in Ireland 
and emigrated to the United States in the mid Nineteenth 
Century.  He first settled in White County, Illinois.

Patrick's children lived along the border of Indiana (Wabash 
River) for many years: Edgar, Crawford & White Counties [IL]; 
Vigo & Gibson Counties [IN]. Many descendants still live in the 
area today.

This family has been found as COOGEN and COUGAN.

There is a chance that this family is related to the New 
Orleans, Louisiana, Coogan family.  In 1850, an Ann Coogan (with 
her children Catherine, Joseph and Mary) was living in Edwards 
County near Patrick Coogan's family. Her children were reportedly 
born in LA.  Obituaries of the New Orleans Coogan family 
requested "Grayville, White County, Ill., papers please copy." 
This theory is still being developed - but if it is true, then
this family probably originated in Dublin, Ireland.
