Research:

This is the family of William Coogan.  He was born in Ireland.  

William's son, James Coogan, emigrated to the United States in 
the early Nineteenth Century.  He first settled in Wareham 
(Plymouth County), Massachusetts.  Later, he moved his family
to Fall River (Bristol County).  Some of his descendants still 
live in that area today.  

Another of William's sons, Patrick Coogan, also emigrated and
settled in Bristol County (he was married in Fall River in 1864).  
We are not sure what happened to him after that.

One of William's grand-sons, Sylvester Coogan, moved to New York 
City. Some of his offspring still live in that state but spread 
into Onondaga County. One part of this branch moved to Washington 
State in the 1920s.

Another of of William's grand-sons, John R. Coogan, died very 
young.  One of his sons, William Vincent Coogan, later left New 
England to seek a better life. He lived for a short time in 
Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, before moving to the Midwest 
(Illinois and Indiana). Depression-era misfortune hit this group 
very hard, causing them to lose track of the East Coast 
relatives.  A large part of this branch still lives in Chicago 
and surrounding areas.

James B. Coogan.  Walter was his brother.

Bill is a descendant of James Coogan through his grandson, 
William Vincent Coogan.  Terence is his brother.
