It appears that he originally lived in Newtownbarry, County Wexford. Later, he moved to County Dublin. Some of Michael's children emigrated to the United States in the late Nineteenth Century. They initially settled together in New Hampshire. One son, Lawrence J. Coogan, later moved to Boston (Suffolk County), Massachusetts.
